The arguments in favor of lowering the voting age include the increased responsibility among citizens to participate in the voting process. According to Dahlgaard (2018), lowering the voting age could help young people develop a culture that would make them more likely to vote as adults than if they did not start participating early. Additionally, their participation could be of influence to their parents, thereby increasing the chances of parents participating in elections. However, the same arguments are used as sources of opposition to the proposition to lower the voting age.
