Project Definition

A project is an investment activity that uses production factors to produce goods and services that are expected to gain profits within a certain period (Bappenas TA-SRRP, 2003).While the meaning of the word management is management, this shows that project management is procedures/and/or project management which consists of investment activities that use production factors or resources (human, material, equipment, finance, methods/technology) to produces goods/services, namely in the form of road and bridge construction, where it is hoped that there will be profits obtained from the use of roads and bridges as a means of land transportation or transportation that has very high economic value in a certain period, namely during the planned/effective life of road and bridge construction.

So in project implementation, project organizers, especially implementers/contractors, should be able to carry out their duties professionally in providing all the production factors or resources required by a project, to fulfill the aims and objectives of the project successfully, namely achieving the required quality standards, specified costs and time.

Time limitations in road and bridge construction project activities simply bear in mind:

1.project investment costs incurred so that they can be returned quickly;

2.time limit for the implementation of the budget for APBN/APBD funds and the time limit for the end of the road and bridge construction implementation period for Foreign Aid/BLN loan funds.

Projects

A project is a joint work or task with project organizers carried out by a service provider through a Construction Implementation Services (contracting) contract, which has set quality and cost targets as well as certain start and finish times. The project has a clear objective or scope of work that is carried out, based on the technical and administrative requirements that have been prepared. Usually the project is implemented by a project organizing organization which is temporary and will be disbanded after the project is completed.

Meanwhile, an activity that is carried out repeatedly or an activity that is a daily/routine activity is usually not a task or activity that is called a project. Project characteristics

In general, project characteristics can be grouped into 4 (four) groups:

1.projects have a goal, namely producing goods and services;

2.projects require input in the form of production factors or resources, such as capital, land and materials, equipment, employee power and leadership;

3.projects have a starting point and an ending point;

4.within a certain time after the project is completed, it can start to produce results.

Project Type

According to investment needs, projects are divided into 3 (three) types:

1.projects that use factors of production to produce physical buildings that produce goods and services. Examples: dams, roads, electricity/energy (PLTA, PLTD, PLTU), and so on.

2.projects built with the aim of producing output in the form of non-physical production factors. Examples: education/training projects and making books that produce skills and knowledge

4.projects built to create new discoveries. Example: technology research projects

Meanwhile, tasks/work that are not projects are:

– process insurance claims, orders, or payments;

– factory production process;

– cooking in restaurants;

– driving a delivery truck on a fixed route every day;

or, all things that are repetitions of activities.
