Okay, everyone…sorry to do this to you again, but please indulge me and take a look within Rules for Writers, and complete a few exercises that address things I typically see as issues in essays, in hopes of perhaps making you more aware of them so as to be able to avoid them better ELIMINATING DISTRACTING SHIFTS: Please read the material within Rules for Writers that begins on page 127-130. This is stuff that explains how to keep your point of view, verb tenses, and so on from shifting needlessly and confusingly. Once you have read the material in the book, then please conquer the following exercises: ???Exercise 13-1 at about the middle of page 128. ???Exercise 13-2 about the middle of page 129. ???Exercise 13-3 about the middle of page 131. ???Exercise 13-4 at the bottom of page 131 and going over to page 132. ???Just out of curiosity, and to make a pun (you’ve noticed I like word play and dumb jokes by now, haven’t you?) on the term “SHIFTING,”..do you know how to drive a stick shift car? (As odd as it may sound to most of you, I actually vastly prefer a manual transmission over an automatic. The last car I bought did not come with a manual transmission, as most cars don’t any longer, but I really really really miss it, and out of habit/muscle memory I sometimes have found myself trying to shift it like it’s a manual! My arm and leg want to be doing something as I drive…it feels unnatural to me to not be working a shifter and a clutch! D’oh!)
