Start by opening Microsoft Word on your device and creating a new document. Once you have created your assignment document, go to the File Menu and select, “Save as”; choose the storage location where you want to save it (your hard drive/memory stick/folder etc.). Choose “save type” as *.docx. Type the file name as “MNGT1711-your last name-your student id-Assignment 3” and save. Double click on the saved file and use it to develop your Assignment 3.
Assignment 3 will require you to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts presented in Unit 3. You will submit this assignment as an MS Word report. The title page must include your name, ID, course name, assignment name/number and university name. The report should use Calibri (body) font size 12 and be double-lined spacing. If you use references, create them on a separate page and cite the sources in APA format.
Question 1: 20 marks
Select any organization of which you are a member (your company, your family, your place of worship, your gym club etc.). Explain the management functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling at that organization. Answer this question in about 300–400 words.
Question 2: 30 marks
Select a job currently held by you or by someone you know. Ask some questions to explore how that job came up (due to growth or shortage of needed skill set) to do a job analysis statement. Learn more about the roles and responsibilities of that position to write a job description. Find the qualifications and skills of the person doing that job to write the job specification. Please note that you are reverse engineering the hiring process and writing job analysis, job description and job specification based on the person hired. In actual practice, the job analysis, description and specification will lead to hiring the person.
Answer this question in about 400–500 words providing a job analysis, job description and job specifications.
Question 3: 25 marks
Identify two leaders living or non-living (preferably Canadians, preferably one male and one female) who you think are/were great leaders. Answer the following questions in about 400–500 words in total for both leaders.
• Why do you think that the leaders you chose are/were great leaders?
• Explain the leadership style of each leader in light of the material you learned in this module.
• How effective is/was the leadership style of each leader?
• From where did each leader draw their leadership power?
• Consider these leadership traits: honest, loyal, competent, caring, determined, ambitious, inspiring, forward-looking, self-confident, and imaginative. Which of these traits suit each of the two leaders you have chosen?
Question 4: 25 marks
Answer the following questions in about 500–600 words.
• Give real life examples from your past experience when each of the three links (one example for each link) in the expectancy theory was broken leading to de-motivation.
• Give two examples of self-actualization needs from Maslow’s theory.
• Give one real life example of satisfiers and one example of dis-satisfiers in Herzberg’s theory based on your past experience.
• Does equal work/equal compensation theory contradict the principle of compensation based on qualifications and skills level of employees? Why or why not?
• If a manager trains a subordinate on his/her work, then only one of them is needed by the company. Which motivation theory does this scenario fall under?
