Assessment Task: Research Paper Type of assessment: Problem‐solving genre (SPSE) Learning Objectives (as published in the ECP): 1: Express your opinions clearly by using words and sentence structures efficiently. 3: Make a convincing argument by structuring your ideas coherently and persuasively. Due date and submission: 14 April 2022 4PM (late submissions incur a penalty of 10% per day late) Submit online through Turnitin via Learn.UQ. You may submit multiple times before the deadline to check your similarity reports. How to submit online: Go to the course site on Learn.UQ and click on ‘Assessment’ on the left‐hand menu. Go to the folder for the assessment item. Inside this folder you will find a Turnitin submission link for which you need to click ‘View/Complete’. Follow the prompts to upload your assignment. Make sure you have successfully uploaded your assignment by reviewing the ‘View/ Complete’ button to see your submission again. Task Description: This task prepares you with the required academic writing skills for learning in the UQ Business School, as well as for writing proposals in the workplace. Answer only one of the two questions below (i.e., Business and Climate Change OR Business and Human Rights). You may not change the question, but you should narrow down the topic in terms of industry and location. Question 1: Climate change is a major issue for businesses. Use the AMJ referencing style to document all of your sources in both body of your essay (in-text citation) and your reference list. Approved references: The approved references for both topics are posted in the Research Paper assessment folder on Blackboard. Use at least eight (8) distinct sources from the approved sources (you can use these as many times as you like). Do not use any additional sources not on the list. NOTE: You may use a reference in any part of your paper, except the Thesis Statement and Topic Sentences. Every reference used within the body of your paper must appear in the Reference List; and every source listed in your Reference List must be used at least once in the body of your paper. All information and ideas borrowed from any of your sources must be referenced. Paraphrase or use direct quotations, plus a citation. Failure to cite your sources is plagiarism. Required mark‐ups: Highlight your work as follows, and use your highlights to check that you have all of the required parts of the problem‐solving genre. 1. Label each paragraph in the left margin (e.g., Problem 1, Solution 1); parts of your paragraphs (e.g., Background, Thesis Statement, Significance, or Topic Sentence, Elaboration, Example, etc.) in the right margin. 2. Underline the keywords in your Background and Thesis Statement; the keywords in your Outline and each of your Topic Sentences. 3. Draw arrows to link the keywords in your Background and in the Thesis Statement; to link the keywords in your Outline to keywords in each of the Topic Sentences. If the Topic Sentence is on a different page, you may use a number to indicate the keyword, as shown in class.
