This has 2 parts- first the four questions need answered and Second is Imitation of the poem-“A London Thoroughfare, 2AM” by Amy Lowell Close Reading and Imitation workshop “A London Thoroughfare, 2AM” by Amy Lowell Let’s get down to the nuts and bolts of this poem. Here are some things to consider. 1. Lowell was deeply influenced by the Imagism movement–became so connected with it that Pound finally left the Imagist camp and derogatorily called it Amygism. How does Lowell’s use of the image work in this poem? 2. The poem is written in three stanzas that get shorter as the poem works its way down the page. What is the effect of that shrinking stanza length? 3. What’s the sense of “alien city” in the last line? How is that alien-ness played out? 4. What is the role of sound in this poem–particularly in the first stanza?
