U6501 Quantitative Analysis II Instructor: Harold Stolper Problem Sets Rules 1. Handing in completed problem sets. Problem sets will be due on Courseworks by 11:59pm. 2. Rules for collaboration and academic integrity. You must submit your homework individually, written in your own words. You are encouraged to discuss your answers in groups of 2 or 3, talking through the problems is a useful check of your logic and will help you develop the necessary language to articulate statistical concepts in both technical and non-technical terms. Two or more identical answers to a question will result in a grade of zero for everyone involved. Repeat offenses will be referred to Academic Affairs. 3. Contents of your submission. Your submission should be a single pdf document with two components: (i) your answers along with the given questions to organize your submission; and (ii) your Stata do-file, when applicable. Show all of the work you did to support the answers you provided, including all Stata commands and relevant output. Do not submit a log file, instead please copy and paste relevant Stata output under the appropriate question if it is necessary to answer the question. Do not include Stata code or output that you did not end up using to complete the assignment, and do not print out the entire dataset or include other information that is not used to support your answers. This makes it much easier for us to grade. You can create a pdf version of your .do file by going to File Print and selecting Adobe PDF as the printer, as in the screenshot below. (This is preferred to copying and pasting the contents of your .do file into Microsoft Word because it maintains the color- coded, fixed font formatting along with code line numbering.) You can combine the pdf versions of your written responses and .do file into a single pdf for free using CombinePDF, or any other application you choose. 4. Formatting guidelines. On the top of the first page of your homework, include your name, UNI, and the names of the people you worked with in order to solve the homework. Stata output and commands pasted into your written responses should be formatted in Courier New font size 9 or 10. When doing calculations, you can use up to 4 available decimals in your calculations but round final answers to 2 decimal places. For example, 3.5829 / 1.8924 = 1.89. This makes it easier to grade. Use Stata or other computer software for all of your graphs, charts and diagrams, do not draw them by hand. Title all graphs, charts, diagrams, and label all your axes. 5. Late submissions. Late homework or hand-written homework will not be graded, but we will automatically drop your lowest problem set score when calculating your final grade. 6. Finding a partner. You can use Ed Discussions via the class Courseworks site and post/reply to the Find a Partner post to help find one or two partners for problem sets.
