The Theoretical Basis of Aboriginal Education and Its Value As It Relates To Quality Inclusive Education in Australia

Aboriginal education dates back to as early as 1788 when aboriginal children suffered under a system that discriminated against them, excluded and separated them from their families. Aboriginal education came up as a policy shift aimed at addressing historical discrimination towards aboriginal children’s education. Aboriginal education dates back to way before colonialism. Before colonization, the Aboriginals existed in tight, well-civilized communities maintaining complex political, social, and political ideologies. The community existed within cultural kinship systems characterized by customary law and learning, which helped the people understand their connection with their land and environment (Burridge & Chodkiewwiz, 2012). Before the colonial invasion, the Aboriginal people had sophisticated education systems based on spoken knowledge and teaching by experience and observation.
