The coursework should be type-written. The word limit is 2,500 words and this is a firm limit.
This includes your answers to the different sub-parts, including any citations and quotes within
the text, but excludes the reference list, any appendix, figures, tables, and formulas or
calculations.
Please include a word count at the top of your assignment. Failure to include a word
count, or specifying an inaccurate word count, will incur a penalty of 3 marks.
Note: Your discussion should be based on your research and your understanding of the key
concepts and theories covered in the lectures. Please use relevant theoretical and empirical
evidence from different sources and your own understanding to support your arguments. Any
sources you use must be properly quoted/referenced using a consistent reference style.
Although there is no strict weighting given to different criteria, good marks will be awarded
for work that have the following qualities:
Insight: identify key points and remain focused.
Analysis and use of the recent academic literature:
o Provide evidence to show that concepts and/or theories have been understood
and applied. Your rationale and reasoning should be explained logically and
clearly throughout.
o Cite academic papers which contain relevant empirical evidence and/or
theoretical analysisthatsupports your main arguments. Itshould always be clear
to me why you are citing a given paper. It does not make sense to pick up random
sentences from different papers, but rather you should try to understand what
each paper does and finds before deciding whether it makes sense to cite it in a
given context. Please be careful using empirical statements that are not backed
by the literature.
Integration: incorporate other information and knowledge; avoid mere summaries of
reading. Please indicate how one point follows from another. Please relate points back
to your arguments to bring out their relevance.
Independent and critical thinking/analysis.
Effort: appearance, organisation, and overall style. The style of your essay should be
clear, concise, and to the point. Check for grammar, typing or spelling errors. Are
quotes, data and evidence used in the text cited correctly Is the reference style
consistent
