Before you begin listing and annotating your sources you need to use the appropriate header that includes the title, subject, and thesis. You do not need an introduction or separate reference page. You need to list your sources with the appropriate information under each. You need to begin with a properly formatted header.FOR EXAMPLE:Your NameENG 2105Professor’s name30 October 2017Working Title: Broad Subject: Statement of purpose: PRAISE:Nice job keeping your annotations in third person. A third person objective point of view creates clear and direct annotations. You also alphabetize your sources.DEVELOPMENT:Each source should have a paragraph that discusses the following:Summary/ Description of the SourceYou do not need to summarize the entire source, but a person who has not read your essay should be able to determine the big picture of your essay based on this annotated bibliography. You include too much information in your summaries. Just stick to the information that directly relates to your thesis.Evaluation of the quality of the sourceAfter you provide a summary of the source, you should also discuss the actual source. Evaluate the source or author critically. Author credibility is as important as content reliability. Is there a bias, lack of evidence, objective, etc.?Who is the author? It is a credible source? How long ago was it written? Is it a scholarly source? Addressing the validity of each source will show how much weight its arguments will carry in your eventual essay. For example, an outdated article might provide inaccurate information, and an article from a scientific journal will have more importance than anything from Wikipedia. Or an article with a clear agenda might not provide unbiased information. Analysis and Support/ how will the source be used to support your thesis You also need to explain why each source is important to your essay, how the source will be used in your essay, and where it will be used. How will this source be useful for your particular topic/ essay? Will it support your thesis? The opposition? Background information? Explain where in your argument this information will be used, and exactly how that information will benefit your essay. Add specific information about how and where you will use each source.FURTHER HELP:Get feedback (from someone other than me). Asking someone who is unfamiliar with your topic if he/she can understand both the larger topic and the sources you are discussing would be helpful. If they are unable to, you can add more details to your annotations to make them more comprehensive. It is also important to alphabetize your sources.Online resources can be very helpful when writing a bibliography.
