I typed the key word medical assistant on the website. I learnt that medical assistants are important in healthcare because they act as the backbone of the doctors offices. In most instances, the medical assistants are responsible for welcoming the patients and conducting preliminary medical examination before they proceed to the physician for further check up. The medical assistants are responsible for taking medical history of the patients and preparing the patients for the doctors examination (American Association of Medical Assistants, 2020). There are some medical assistants that are involved in handling insurance matters and referrals on billing. I also learnt that clinical duties assigned to medical assistants are depend on the state laws. There are some states that grant an expanded area of clinical practice compared to others (Bodenheimer, Willard-Grace, & Ghorob, 2014). For example, some states allow the medical assistants to remove stitches, draw blood, and authorize drug refills among other responsibilities while some states do not allow.
