ECO105Y L0101/L0102 Cohen 2021-2022 1 MaCRO TERM TEST INSTRUCTIONS In studying, you are responsible for all macro material assigned on the course outline (Macro Chs 5-8), and all material covered in Lecture Modules, including incorporated media stories and Knowledge Check questions. You are similarly responsible for any Winter 2022 articles/videos of macro media stories posted in Quercus under Economics Out There, including all media stories discussed in macro tutorials. For the stories, I will not test factual details, but you are responsible for any discussion of the main economic issues. Test is Monday 28 February 2022 at 9:00 am Toronto EST. The Test is synchronous – everyone writes at the same time. You need a computer with a reliable internet connection to take the Test. Phones and tablets will not work. All of the stringent time restrictions are to ensure academic integrity and protect students who follow the rules. The Test has two separate sections – a Quercus Quiz with TF and MC question, and a Crowdmark Assessment for the short answer problems. This test is 60 minutes, 10 TF, 18 MC, 2 SAP. For comparison, the Macro Comprehensive Test in April is 120 minutes, 20 TF, 36 MC, 4 SAP. For simplicity and consistency across all tests, there are 0.5 marks per TF and 1.5 marks per MC. While this 60 minute Macro Term Test is worth 80 marks on the course outline, the 120 minute Comprehensive Test is worth 120 marks. To keep the marks proportional to the time, we will take your Term Test score out of 60, multiply by 1.33 (= 80) and round up to the next integer. Using 60 marks and 60 minutes: The Quercus Quiz has o 10 TF questions (0.5 mark each; 5 marks; 5 minutes) o 18 MC questions (1.5 mark each; 27 marks, 23 minutes) There are no penalties for wrong answers. You have 28 minutes for this part of the Test. The Crowdmark Assessment has o 2 short answer problems (SAP) (28 marks total; 32 minutes) You have 32 minutes for this part of the Test. In the Quercus gradebook, we will take the total marks out of 60, multiply by 1.33, and round up to the next integer (e.g., 70.2 becomes 73) to gets your marks out of 80. QUERCUS QUIZ INSTRUCTIONS Log into Quercus well before the test starts. At 9:00 am EST on Monday 28 February, the link in Quercus (under Quizzes) to the Macro Term Test TF/MC questions will open. I will also send the link in an Announcement. The link closes at 9:33. You have 28 minutes from the time you start. If you start late, but before 9:05, you will still have 28 minutes. No matter when you start, the link closes at 9:33 and Quercus will mark all questions you have answered. ECO105Y L0101/L0102 Cohen 2021-2022 2 Each question you see is randomly drawn from a question pool, so every student will have different questions. Even when you have the same question as another student, the order of the answers is scrambled. You can only see one question at a time. You can change your answer to a question as long as you have not advanced to the next question. But you must answer that question before moving to the next. If you leave an answer blank and move on to the next question, you will not be able to return, and you lose the marks for that unanswered question. Be careful – do NOT press the Submit button until you have finished. Because time is important, there is a countdown clock visible. With 28 minutes, I suggest you average 0.5 minute per TF question and 1.25 minutes per MC question. Don’t just rely on the countdown clock. If you started late, Quercus automatically submits your quiz at 9:33. [Time adjusted for Accessibility Students.] You have a 12 minute break until the Crowdmark link is mailed to your UofT email at 9:45 am EST with instructions. CROWDMARK INSTRUCTIONS Here are the instructions you will see when you access the Crowdmark link. There are two, multi-part short answer problems, worth a total of 28 marks. You can handwrite your answers on any paper (lined or unlined). For each problem, try and fit your answers on 1 page. Write darkly and as neatly as possible. If we can’t read it, we can’t mark it. We expect the handwriting will match on all previous and subsequent Crowdmark tests. Printed answers (without explicit accessibility accommodation for using a computer) automatically result in a score of zero on the entire Macro Term Test. Scan or photograph each page separately, and drag and drop your images to the designated location for that question. You will have a timer of 42 minutes — 32 minutes for writing your answers and 10 minutes for scanning and uploading. When 32 minutes are up, you must stop writing and immediately start scanning and uploading. Even if it takes you 2 minutes to scan all of your answers (which is longer than should be needed), your Crowdmark log file should show uploading activity at least 8 minutes before your timer expires. You can check your log: https://crowdmark.com/help/verifying-that-an- assignment-was-submitted/ Crowdmark time-stamps each interaction and submission. Only if you cannot upload to Crowdmark, email your scanned/photographed pages to eco105.cohen@utoronto.ca .If your Crowdmark log file shows Submission processing completed, do NOT send us a duplicate “just in case.” Answer each question on one page of paper — one page for Q29, one page for Q30. ECO105Y L0101/L0102 Cohen 2021-2022 3 Scanning and Uploading On your phone, use a scanner app or take photos of your work in a well-lit room and keep your desk or other objects out of the background. iPhone or iPad photos output a HEIC format Crowdmark does not accept. You must convert from HEIC to JPEG. Open image file using Preview application. Click File > Export, type a name and location to save. Click the Format dropdown menu, choose JPEG. Adjust the Quality slider until File Size is in between 1 MB and 2 MB; Save. If using a scanner app, choose PDF or JPEG format, 200 DPI resolution. If your scanner has a Darker setting, use it to make pencil answers more readable. Crowdmark supports images up to 12 MB in size, but smaller files reduce upload time and stress. To compress an image on Windows: Open image in Microsoft Photos. At top-right corner of the application, Click > Resize > Define custom dimensions. Keep width and height unchanged; adjust the Quality slider to reduce file size. Click Save resized copy, and choose location to save Here is the Crowdmark page for help in submitting https://crowdmark.com/help/completing-and-submitting-an-assignment/#preparing Accessibility is directly adjusting all Quercus and Crowdmark times. You should not contact me or the course email. ACADEMIC HONESTY This is an open-book test. I presume you have study materials open. That is not cheating. But the test is individual — you may not consult other students, tutors, or any outside help. We are grading your abilities, not your tutor’s or your friend’s. During the test, you may not record, screenshot, or share your questions or answers with others, in person or through social/digital media. Any of these activities, any outside help or sharing of questions or answers is cheating and major violations of University of Toronto’s Academic Honesty Policy. We will pursue all violations, using social media records where possible. Answers to your short answer problems must be handwritten so that we can compare handwriting against other tests. Anyone submitting printed answers (without explicit accessibility accommodation for using a computer) automatically result in a score of zero on the entire Macro Term Test. MAKE-UP POLICY If you miss either the February or April macro tests (but not both), you must write a 2 hour comprehensive macro Make-Up Test (closed book, in-person) to be scheduled on a single day in May 2021. I make NO exceptions to that policy, as you know well from your perfect score on Quiz Zero. And as you know from the Micro Make-Up discussion of results, averages on make-up tests historically are lower than averages on the tests for which they substitute.
