: This is a reading intensive course. To encourage you to engage with the texts and so enable active learning, you must take notes on the texts as you read them, including specific page numbers and your reactions to specific passages. Reading the material will make this course a more enjoyable experience for you. But if that carrot isnt enough, this assignment provides a stick, too. Take this assignment seriously. It will help facilitate completing the writing and participation components of this course. This assignment will also demonstrate to me that you are working hard to engage with the course material on your own. There are two components to this assignment: , take thorough reading notes. I mean that literally: show me your reading notes. I want to see evidence that you thoroughly engaged with the assigned reading. As these are reading notes, I am obviously looking for thoughtful engagement with the text, substantive comments and questions, active use of citations, etc. , after youve completed the assigned reading, after weve discussed the material on the discussion board, go back through your reading notes and elaborate some. Looking back, what do you want to say about your initial responses/reactions? Are the phrases or sentences connected to other assigned readings? Do you have questions or concerns about them? Etc. In other words, after reading and discussing the material, what are your final thoughts? These journals I will provide a couple of examples of what Im looking for on Canvas. These should be thorough. We will read a lot of material in this class. I want to see evidence that youve engaged it all! And in your reflections, be specific, critical, and thoughtful. for this week: May 13th May 17th T.H. Marshal, Citizenship and Social Class, in , I have also attached 4 samples of the double entry journal. samples show how my professor wants me to do the assignment. so you can choose any of those samples for the reading for this weak, which I have also attached.
