If I was faced with the issue of my call center being nearly 40% understaffed and being unable to recruit employees because of below-market wages, I would definitely find a way to increase wages. Though increasing wages somewhat contradicts the purpose of offshoring in the first place, it will be necessary in order to recruit new employees, remain competitive, and prevent excessive turnover which costs the company time and money. Also, if the current staff is overworked it can affect productivity which can negatively impact the company as well. To justify the increase of wages, especially for well-qualified candidates, I would take into consideration the issues that I would eventually have to deal with if wages aren’t increased.
