Tara Westover’s memoir, Educated, is a text about her education, about her learning and navigating a world that is very different than the one in which she is raised as a child. When asked what “being educated” means to her, Westover says that education is “about making a life and making a person… the ability to see your life from another perspective.” In our first essay, I am asking you to think about all the texts we’ve read about this concept of education and analyze them in relation to your definition of the term.
PROMPT
In a 3-4-page essay, make a strong claim about your definition of the term “educated” while using Westover’s memoir and other texts to support your claim.
REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 3 full pages, not including the Works Cited page, which will appear at the end.
Follow proper MLA formatting
Must use at least 2 sources, one of which must be Westover’s Educated
Must have an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion and demonstrate the ability to write an effective thesis statement
