Introduction Section: 2. Tell the reader what you are arguing for, in what article, and why it matters. Do you agree with one side? The other? A combo? Or something brand new? 3. Have a clear thesis statement: one sentence that tells the reader what you are arguing and why. Be sure that your thesis is comprehensive enough that you can write about it for 3-4 pages. First Part of the Main Body: 4. Clearly state one side of the debate. 5. For this side choose 2-3 long quotes to use as evidence. Explain each quote in detail and explain why and how the quote is evidence for your argument. Second Part of the Main Body: 6. Clearly state the opposing side of the debate. This is the counter-argument. 7. For this opposing side choose 2-3 long quotes to use as evidence. Explain each quote in detail and explain why and how the quote is evidence for your argument. Final Part of the Main Body: 8. For the third part, and most important part of the paper. Adjudicate (judge) between the two sides. Who do you think wins the debate? Why? What evidence would you use? Be very detailed and thorough in your responses. You can also say that both are right and wrong and that you think the answer is a combo of both sides. Concluding Paragraphs: 9. For the second to last paragraph, choose one quote to use as evidence for a counter argument to your decision. What might be used as evidence against your thesis? What is an objection to your argument? This should be something new. This could be one point that you havent mentioned yet earlier in the paper. Next to Last Paragraph: 10. Compare your debate to some issue or another debate in 2019. How does this debate compare to another issue in the news or in popular culture etc. Conclusion: 11. Sum up the whole paper in 2 or 3 sentences. Bibliography or Works Cited: 12. Include bibliography on the very last page. use the evidence from Plato?s Republic pp 254-263 is due today, Feb 12.
