SHORT WRITING ASSIGNMENT: RESEARCH PAPER
This assignment offers the opportunity for you to investigate what has been written about a topic
related to disability and family that particularly interests you. The objective is to gather a body
of knowledge on your subject and make some insightful observations about it.
Write a paper of approximately 5 pages on a topic related to an aspect of family response to
disability and that explores this topic in greater depth. You can refer to articles weve read in
class, but you must use at least three (3) scholarly sources outside of our course material.
Scholarly sources include professional journal articles and professional publications. Sources
must be cited using proper APA style, and include a Reference List.
Your paper should contain an introduction with a thesis statement that points out the major issues
about your subject that you discovered in your research. The body of the paper should provide
supporting evidence to support your thesis. A good part of the paper should be your
interpretation of the information and how your knowledge of the subject has been enriched.
Your conclusion should make some wrap up statements about what you learned about your
chosen topic and the possible impact of your findings on people with disabilities and family
members and/or society in general. If you have any unanswered questions, or ideas for future
research, you may include that as well.
In essence, I will be looking for a thoughtful look at a topic related to families with disabled
family members, and an idea of the major significance of this topic.
