The Retrial of Orestes
Read the play The Eumenides.
The God Zeus looks down upon Orestess trial. Unsatisfied with the results, he believes the matter requires further investigation and debate by two teams of Gods and Devils. Now that they have carefully analyzed the events of the first trial, Zeus commands them to open up the debate again, to consider the evidence presented by the Furies, Apollo, Athena, and Orestes himself, and to determine the final fate of the defendant. Zeus wants to hear both sides carefully reasoned arguments, which will explain the teams stance for or against Orestes.
Im Team Fury. As a member of Team Fury, you will be arguing on the side of the ancient Greek deities of vengeance. The Furies torment Orestess mind with guilt. They believe he should pay the price of matricide with his life. During Orestess trial, the Leader of the Furies argues against the God Apollo (who defends Orestes), and makes a case that killing ones own flesh and blood, especially ones own mother, is a crime against humanity and the gods.
from the perspective of the team. The paper should summarize the supporting arguments of your team and show why Orestes deserves to face punishment.
