There was no limit to how many pages, other then each answer for each question should be approx 400 words.
Please answer 4 out of the 5 following questions below (choose 1 question to SKIP). Use your own words. Your answers should be approzimatley 400 words each; however there is no minimum or maximim word count. Use a much or as little space as possible to write the BEST answer you can. You may use class materails that I have uploaded attached to this
to answer the questions.
The answers will be assesed based on : how well you demonstrate familirity with, and comprehension of class materials, and clarity and precision; writing (please check for grammer and spelling and PROOFREAD your answers carefully).

1. How would you define violence? if someone were to ask you to define violence what would you say: given what we
have read and learned in class? Why is it important to define violence in the way you describe? In other words, why
does it matter?
2. What is culture anesthesia? describe not only what the phenomenon is, according to Allien Feldman, but also how it
operates. In other words (Hint: what does cultural anesthesia “do” for society or power in two examples Feldman
discusses in his article?).
3. What is modernity? Discuss the relationship of genocide and mass violence to modernity or moderinization. why is
this important for us today?
4. We have encountered several critiques of representation, media, and/or the “spectacularity” of violence thus far in
our readings. what is the “spectacularity” of violence? Identify two authors/articles critiquing representation, media or
the spectacularity of violence and explain each authors argument.
5. Weve come to see how narrative, storytelling, and especially symbolic storytelling such as myth making support
regimes or cultures of violence. Identify and describe two contexts of violence from the readings and discuss the role of
narrative and story telling/ mythmaking in each. Be precise. How do specific myths, stories, or narratives support or
interact with specific modes or regimes of violence?.
