The purpose of this assignment is to identify and describe a controversial public health topic found in popular media.
You are required to identify a popular media article on a controversial public health topic. You should choose an article from a newspaper, magazine, or other popular media source (i.e., not a research article from a journal). After you identify a media article, you will write a short paper that addresses the questions below.
Questions:
Briefly, what is the public health topic? Why is this public health topic controversial? Where did you find this article and when was it published? (1-2 paragraphs)
What side do the authors take on the public health issue, or do they remain neutral? Do they provide accurate information to support their claims? Why or why not? (1 paragraph)
In your opinion, does this article do a good job of educating the public on the health topic? Why or why not? How could the article be improved? Support these assertions with peer-reviewed literature. (1-2 paragraphs)
Students are expected to use professional tone/language, as well as proper spelling, grammar, and mechanics. The paper should be saved as a Microsoft Word document or a pdf. It should be 1-2 pages (excluding reference list), double-spaced, 1 margins, and a legible font. All major assertions must be supported with citations in APA format and an APA-formatted reference list should accompany the assignment. Submit your completed work as an attachment to this Dropbox in Blackboard and include your last name in the name of your file.
