I selected B.S. Burke’s ‘Diet History’ method to evaluate for pros and cons. One pro of this methodology is that it is comprehensive, involving four steps. The steps include: general information with regard to health habits, questions about typical eating patterns, a cross-check for the previously listed information, followed by a 3-day food record.1. This method, in its comprehensive approach is one of the preferred methods among nutritionists as it assesses and makes a good estimate of a client’s typical nutrient intake.1. The cross-check portion of this approach also allows a client to clarify or perhaps amend their initial dietary claims.1.
There are noted limitations to this method, which include a lengthy 1-2 hour interview, difficult coding, which requires highly skilled interviewers, and the process can be expensive, as well as the potential for overestimated nutrient intake calculations.1
