The weekly learning journal entries are your personal writing assignments capturing your reflections on the material each week. Your journal entries should include:
Concise outline of what you learned from the course materials (bullet point list of incomplete sentences are OK; one- or two-word lists are not OK)
Discussion about what course materials or subjects were most interesting, surprising, or challenging
Your observations about how the legal and ethical ideas covered may be useful in shaping your future actions and decision-making as a health care manager and leader
Any follow up questions or areas for further study
Your journal should not exceed three pages each week. Journals will be graded using the rubric below.
Understand the basic federal laws relating to healthcare fraud and abuse and how the Affordable Care Act has affected them.
Be able to identify the most significant statutes relating to fraud and abuse in federal healthcare payment programs.
Know how the concepts of kickback and self-referral affect hospital operations.
Recognize the benefits of maintaining an active corporate integrity program.
