The purpose of the news briefing is to provide students the opportunity to explore and understand the
current development of information technology, its business applications and implications. Students will
then organize and present outlines and comments on the development. Topics may include emerging
technologies, innovative business models based on IT, current industry and policy issues, corporate or
personal applications, etc. The topic should be relevant to course materials, interesting, and have business
implications.
3. The sources of briefings can be newspapers (e.g. Wall Street Journal), business journals (e.g. Bloomberg
Business Week), professional IT blogs, or any online resource. The topic of a briefing should be current,
which means that it emerges in public domain recently or at least in the past year.
4. The presentation should identify the title, author, date, and source of any article cited. After deciding the
topic, the student can then expand the research into any online resource and cite relevant evidence, data,
and extra information outside the article.
5. The briefing should be in the format of PowerPoint presentation, which contains at least five but no more
than ten slides, including the title and references. Students should email their slides to the instructor at
least 24 hours before the scheduled presentations.
