To provide more detail about the expected deliverables for the extra credit assignment, I am outlining some points that came up during our update meetings and that should help guide your final report.
To recap, the purpose of the assignment is to search online for and identify resources that would help our startup Paqt understand and achieve a data and privacy compliance standard under the CCPA in California and privacy laws in other US states. (For the purposes of this assignment, you may assume that Paqt will obtain more than 50% of its revenue from customers in California and so will be subject to the CCPA.) Any application beyond these jurisdictions to Canada and Europe would be a bonus. The issue is that we can read the privacy legislation and understand generally our compliance obligations, but we do not know specifically what we need to do to achieve the compliance standards mandated by the laws either regarding security or technical controls with our app or for corporate administration within the company (access control by employees, appointing a privacy officer, etc.). The assignment is to explore online for any resource, free or paid, that is geared to startups that would help to fill in this picture and give us specific and actionable guidance about how to become compliant with these privacy laws.
By now, your team should have a clear idea of what the project scope is and have canvassed online for potential resources that you think are appropriate to select. Be sure to keep a research trail of any resources you consulted and ruled out, as this will help us understand how you made your final selections.
Final Report
Each student
Each student in a team should find online 3-5 resources that you believe would satisfy the criteria of the assignment and provide a max 1-page summary of each resource.
o The 1-page summaries can be in full written-form or point-form.
The 1-page summaries should include 4 main points:
o Short description of the resource (i.e. type of resource, regions and laws covered, URL link, pricing)
o What the resource does and how it can help
o What are the limitations of the resource, such as if it applies only to a specific region or industry, or is best-suited to a different type of business
o Why the resource was selected and why you think it is a better selection vs other resources you canvassed
Research trail of any resources consulted and not selected
o You can just include the URL link and 1-2 sentences explaining what it is and why it was not suitable
