You have done several of these R&Ds before and I am not going to repeat the general
expectations and requirements. Submit your responses in a pdf document to the Discussion
Board. Include the question number in each of your response/answer.
1. About sampling: if the study region has a massive number of points/locations and the
issue is to determine if these locations exhibit a particular pattern other than random, then
sample locations are selected to determine if the spatial pattern is non-random. What do
you think the result will be and why? [this is not hypothetical: I have reviewed
manuscripts doing exactly this] (100 words)
2. Ch. 11 focuses on display. In HJ Ch. 1, the author reminded us that all maps are mental
maps, based on
seeing the landscape from space! (pp. 3-4). These several sentences
subtly touch upon some important concepts about the science and arts of map-making.
Similarly, many people believe that maps tell us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing
but the truth. Comment. (200 words)
3. Highly reliable data are rare in research. When data reliability becomes an issue in
research, what is the most important principle in handling the issue? (100 words)
