Media Analysis An understanding of personality can be seen in virtually every aspect of the world around us. How can you apply the terms, concepts and theories discussed in this module to better understand current events? However, drive, a simple tension that demands to be satisfiedhunger is an exampleis not an entirely satisfactory motivational concept. While it is a psychological tradition and seems easily understood, Maslow (1954) considered drive to be inherently ambiguous. Looking at behavior that appears associated with a certain drive may mislead us. People apparently behaving at the behest of the hunger drive may find food and eat it. However, their ultimate goal may be security, not reduction of the hunger drive. Likewise, people engaging in sexual behavior may actually be seeking increased self-esteem. It is these end-goalssecurity and self-esteem in the examplesthat hold the key to understanding people. Such goals transcend the particular life circumstances of the given person. Goal-seeking can be cast as needs for certain satisfactions that are sought by all humans, regardless of their culture, environment, or generati????????????????????on.
