WRITING PROMPT: Create a 2-3 page, double-spaced rough draft of Short Essay 2 focusing on the literary analysis of ANY text that we have studied this term, WITH THE EXCEPTION of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 46 and Jamaica Kincaid’s “Girl” (since you already wrote about this story in Essay 1).
To successfully complete this essay:
1. make sure to structure your paper according to the essay template available in Week 2 Assignments.
2. explain your own ideas clearly. You should primarily rely on your own ideas when writing the paper and not on research sources. Papers that primarily communicate information from sources rather than your own ideas will receive a lower grade even if you document your sources as the goal of this assignment is for you to practice developing your own argument.
3. Use quotes from the story or poem to support your ideas.
4. Document your quotes: a. after each quote, include an MLA-style in-text citation (for poems, the in-text citation should indicate the number of the line you are quoting from, e.g., (3) – indicates that the quoted words are from line 3 of the poem
b. at the end of your paper, include a Works Cited to list your sources
5. Write a draft that is 2-3 double-spaced pages, exclusive of the Works Cited page.
