Guideline for Writing Therapies Comparison Paper
Read the provided Case Study below for Therapies Comparison.
Decide and state what the primary diagnosis is (and secondary, if needed)  for the case using DSM V’s criteria. (worth 5 points)
You must then type a 3 -4 page paper (no more than 5 pages maximum including reference section) comparing and contrasting five different models of therapy that could be used to treat the client in the case (Choose five: Biological, Psychodynamic, Behavioral, Cognitive, Humanistic or Socio-Cultural). Discuss five specific types of therapy and tell me how each specific therapy model works to help the client. How does each model of therapy work? What results might be expected with each therapy? This will likely take you a paragraph or two to write on each of the models of therapy. This will be worth 10 points each for a total of 50 points.  In this section you are showing your understanding of how the different therapy models might be used to explain psychopathology.
In this section you are creating a treatment plan.  Tell me which therapy/ies you think would have the best results for the case and why you think so.  Tell me specifically, what you propose for treatment using your chosen therapy models? Exactly what would you propose to do in therapy and what would be your goal for the client?  This will be worth 15 points.  Use at least three (3) in-text citations from your references to support the use of your chosen therapy treatments, worth 5 points each for a total of 15 points). This will likely take up about a page of text.
Use at least three (3) scholarly psychological journal articles or books as references (not your textbook, not blogs, not magazines, not Wikipedia or similar websites) for a total of three (3) references.  Report using APA style which can be seen in the reference section of your textbook.  You may also go to the Writing Center for help, if needed, or ask a Librarian to assist you. (5 points each for a total of 15 points
This paper assignment will test your understanding of the therapies talked about in class throughout the semester.  Basically, I want to know how you interpret treatment according to each of the specific therapy perspectives.  I also want to see that you can find reputable supporting evidence of the different treatments outside of your textbook.
Keep in mind that late papers will lose points each day including weekends for up to one week.  No paper will be accepted after one week late.
READ the CASE STUDY below.
N. L. is a 29-year-old mother of 7 children aged 11years – 7 months.  The Department of Child and Family services just removed all of the children from her care after her 8-year-old son reported to his school adjustment counselor that his Mommy would touch and kiss his private area while they were in the shower together. He also reported that he sleeps in the same bed with his Mother and her live-in boyfriend each night because he is afraid of the dark.. He told the counselor that he sometimes feels “yucky” when he wakes up in the morning because his PJ’s feel damp and sticky.
N.L is not new to the system.  There have been multiple reports for child abuse and child neglect filed against her in the past.  For years, neighbors reported that she would leave the children home alone at night and that the babies would scream for hours while she allegedly went out to get “high”.  However, each time that the Department came to inspect, there was no evidence of child abuse, the home was usually clean and there was food available for the children.
N.L admits that she “used to” enjoy getting high occasionally but never in front of the children.   Her drug of choice is cocaine but she does not “think” that she is an addict.  She stated that when she was pregnant, she did not “use” at all.
She denies all allegations of sexually abusing her son.  She stated that he just made it up so that he could get out of the projects and live in a nicer home because he wants fancy sneakers and an iPhone that she cannot afford.
When asked about her history, N.L. reports that she was arrested at 16 for abusing the little boy that lived in the apartment above her.  She said that she did not abuse him because he was already 10 years old and old enough to want to have sex with her.  “Besides”, she stated, “sex is a wonderful thing to share with someone.  It shows them how much you really love them”.  She admits that when she was 10 years old, her 42-year-old neighbor had sex with her.  However, she reports that she appreciated his teaching her how to do it the right way and that he was a wonderful man who gave her money, clothes, and toys.
