This assignment is designed for you to focus on how students acquire language and how we can use this knowledge to inform your teaching practices of ELLs. This will count for a total of 5 hours on your field verification log. There is a minimum of 3 pages, double spaced, 12pt. font, 1inch margins.
Each student must select a non-English language television show or film in a language that they are not familiar with. This can be a film, drama, or programs with plots that have human interaction. You will have to watch for at least one to two hours (This can be a film, episodes of show etc.) They cannot have subtitles. You can find these via the internet, particularly You Tube. If you need assistance, please let me know.
After you watch the movie or episodes, write a response addressing the following:
(a) a detailed descriiptive narrative of the program action, characters, settings, mood, etc.
(b) a detailed descriiption of your own reactions, feelings and emotions about the experience and process of watching a program in a language you do not understand. Make sure that you focus on the process
(c) a comprehensive identification of all the strategies and clues you used for each viewing to make sense of what is going on in the program (including your use of the verbal, visual, graphic, and behavioral clues/evidence of the program).
