Current Career and Transition to Nursing
I am currently working as a unit coordinator in the NICU and also have experience as a newborn care specialist. However, I have always had a strong desire to become a NICU nurse myself. I am passionate about providing care to newborns and their families, and I believe that becoming a NICU nurse will allow me to make a bigger impact and further fulfill my career goals.
Handling the Return to School and Full-time Study
Since you mentioned that you are already taking online classes full-time, it seems like you have already begun your journey towards transitioning to a career in nursing. Handling the demands of full-time study in an accelerated program can definitely be challenging, but with proper planning and time management, it is definitely achievable. One approach could be to create a schedule that allows you to allocate specific time slots for studying and completing coursework, while also ensuring that you prioritize self-care and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Additionally, utilizing resources such as study groups, online forums, and seeking support from professors and advisors can greatly enhance your learning experience and help you navigate through the demands of the program.
Characteristics for Nursing and Student Leadership
Being a good nurse and a student leader requires a combination of several characteristics. Some of the traits that I believe make me suitable for these roles include:
Compassion: I genuinely care about the well-being of others, and I am driven by a desire to help and support those in need.
Adaptability: I am able to quickly adapt to new situations and environments, allowing me to effectively handle the challenges and changes that come with being a nurse and a student leader.
Excellent communication skills: I have the ability to listen attentively and clearly articulate information, which is crucial for connecting with patients, their families, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
Critical thinking: I possess strong problem-solving abilities, enabling me to analyze situations from various perspectives and make informed decisions in a timely manner.
Integrity: I believe in practicing nursing ethically and with integrity, ensuring that I uphold a high standard of care and professionalism.
Demonstrating Leadership Qualities
An example of when I demonstrated my leadership qualities was when I was selected to be a team leader during a group project at school. I was responsible for coordinating tasks, delegating responsibilities, and ensuring that everyone in the team was actively engaged and contributing. I facilitated effective communication among team members, encouraged open discussions, and resolved conflicts in a diplomatic manner. Through my leadership, the project was completed successfully and our team received positive feedback from the instructor. This experience allowed me to showcase my leadership skills and provided me with a valuable opportunity to further develop my abilities in a team setting.
** Also incorporate how I am a single mother of two and trying to show my kids no matter how many times you fall just get back up and keep going. If you really want something you will make it happen. Talk about perseverance and not giving up.
