For each category, write about an example of how that particular form of nonverbal communication functions. For example, if you chose gesture communication, you might want to talk about a type of emblem.
Next, explain how miscommunication might happen because noise associated with this type of communication (Remember with noise we have physical, physiological, psychological and somatic noise.
Physical noise is external, environmental distractions. For example, if I wear a paisley tie and talking to you face to face , you will pay attention to my tie because its pattern. In this case, my paisley tie become the physical noise.Physiological noise means biological influences. One day, I went to school without eating breakfast and lunch. When I was listening to the lecture in the afternoon, my stomach ached and I could not focus on what my instructor was saying. Also, my body was sweating. In this case, biological influence can be a kind of noise. According to the textbook, psychological noise is defined as in the form of preconceptions, biases, and assumptions, also interferes with effective message transmission and reception (J. Dan Rothwell, 12). It means preconceived, biases make transmission and reception of messages between different ethnic and religious groups extremely difficult. For example, my grandmother believed in Buddha, but I am not. Sometimes, when I have important exams, she will pray and hope Buddha can help me get good grades. She compel me to pray, too. However, because I am a atheist, we are always on the different page. Word choice that is confusing or distracting creates interference, which is semantic noise. In America culture, when people are sending messages on social network, they are used to say LOL, which means laugh out loud. However, in China, we always think LOL is the abbreviation of the game, which is league of legends. Same word has different meanings, and different culture has different comprehend, it creates interference.
To me, the physical noise will impact me a lot because the change of the environment around me can catch my attention so easily.
