The ‘He’ Hormone”

Testosterone is a steroid hormone produced by human body to maintain and stimulate sexual function. The recent research showed that testosterone is something more than just sexual stimulation; moreover, it can be altered in a person to obtain desired effects. It was found out that testosterone can affect and influence a lot of things in a person’s normal life. Testosterone comes into action to bring some differences in gender. Men produce ten times more testosterone than women. Consequently, this affects such factors as physique, mood and self-confidence. However, natural difference still haunts the debate about gender equality.

Testosterone comes into play to disapprove the fact that identity is what people are born with. One’s level of testosterone can change to achieve the desired results. A person with low testosterone can be injected with this hormone, which will lead to the increase in surge energy. However, when the testosterone cells go down, one begins to feel less reserved than usually experiencing increase in rage. The biological difference between men and women is based on testosterone as this hormone is found in both genders. As men produce more testosterone than women, women injected with it experience male characteristics. Human sex can be determined within six weeks of conception by the level of testosterone as every fetus is female unless altered. The sex of a person can be changed even after birth.

Behavioral traits associated with testosterone are eminent. The Big T correlates with energy, competitiveness, self-confidence, sexual drive, tenacity, and strength. However, men who overuse this make their own production collapse. However, according to the research conducted, people with high level of testosterone are less productive than those with less testosterone. Testosterone also depends on the surrounding environment, so some kinds of people are likely to produce high levels of testosterone. Testosterone is present in both men and women with psychological dominance, high self-esteem, and confident physicality. People who live in the winning environment usually produce more testosterone. Studies have shown that testosterone levels may respond to more long-term stimuli. It means that testosterone facilitates risk and it becomes much easier for a person to commit crime. However, this does not outweigh the benefits. Testosterone has been used to benefit both women and men in physical and mental performance. Racial and gender inequality is also considered to be based on testosterone and this is evident in different kinds of sport. The medical ways to solve gender inequity can be used to improve women’s lives; however, this must be done with care to avoid negative effects. Although this may be an uphill task, it may solve a lot of social crimes, e.g. rape. Sullivan does believe that identity is established after birth, but changes in puberty. According to him, this happens to men who change this trait twice.

Indeed, the question of testosterone usually raises numerous debates concerning the identity of a person. Personal identity can change with the help of testosterone in order to achieve the desirable results. It is a common knowledge that life of a person keeps changing, so the discoveries on testosterone should work for the good of humanity.
