Performance Management Comment

Question 1

The way a performance expectation is written have an impact on writing the comments as it depends on the variable being examined. Some of the variables may exceed expectations when they are below the number set as the target while others will be deemed as need improvement upon scoring less that the set number.

Question2

Above and beyond comments means that that the expectations are just above the set target but they need to improve making a greater margin between the achieved results and the set target for them to be termed as to exceed expectations.

Question 3

It is easier to write comments to support a needs improvement rating because it provides a chance to reevaluate the objectives set to see whether they are realistic. It also brings forth measures needed to attain the set objectives such as motivation providing a room for creativity.

From the comments section, I chose the performance standard #7 and #9. Performance standard #7 involved ensuring that the projects are finalized within +/- 5% of the budget. For this performance standard, finalizing the budget under the value figure less than 5% indicates an exceed of the expectations. The reason behind is that budgets operates under a specific limit and putting in mind that the resources are limited, they should be used sparingly. Besides, the aim of setting a company is to make profits and therefore the companies must work within the set limit so that they are self-sustaining. Working within the limit makes the company not to overspend and thus reduces the chances of getting bankrupt. A rating of more than 5% indicates that the budget has been depleted and that the company needs to add more money that is not budgeted for and this make the company’s future to be at stake.

The other performance standard was #9 involving reduction of scrap by 2%. Scrap is waste that is generated during the manufacturing process. The set target for reduction of scrap is 2% and this means that a value above 2% means that the company has achieved its objectives and has exceeded the set limit. Reducing the scrap by 1% means that the target has not been achieved as the scrap has only been reduced by a small margin and this calls for improvements. A company producing a lot of waste means that they are misusing the available resources, abusing due to abundance and this may lead to exhaustion and the consequent reduction in the profit margin.
