ESSAY #3
For your next paper, you will be writing on the following topic:
A mural at South Arbor Charter Academy that depicted a diverse group of national and global heroes like Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Betsy Ross and Albert Einstein was replaced with a new mural that pictured individuals like Oprah, Maya Angelou, J.K. Rowlings and Walt Disney. The schools argument? the new mural focuses on modern day heroes.

The replacement of this mural sparked quite a debate. Several parents felt this new mural honored celebrities, not heroes. This debate has raised some great questions: Are people like Oprah and J.K. Rowlings celebrities? Are they heroes? Are they both? What about people like Kim Kardashian or Tom Brady? Are these people celebrities or heroes?
The schools position the They Say is that the new mural focuses on modern day heroes rather than historical heroes. What is your position? You will write a paper addressing what you believe is the difference between a celebrity and a hero.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Your paper should discuss what you believe is the difference between a celebrity and a hero and should be supported with evidence.
2. Papers should be 2-4 pages, double spaces with 1-inch margins.
3. Paper will be due on November 16, 2016 by the beginning of class. Papers can be emailed to me, submitted through CANVAS, or submitted in class.
4. Cheating or plagiarizing will not be tolerated and students caught cheating or plagiarizing will fail the course. Plagiarism is defined as using anothers words or ideas without giving proper credit. Cheating is defined as receiving or giving unauthorized help.
REMEMBER:
1. Your paper should have an introduction that grabs your reader with a clear thesis and a satisfying conclusion
2. Make sure your paper supports your thesis statement
3. Proofread for spelling and grammatical mistakes
