Q1. Following is the description of process involved in filing an insurance claim and getting reimbursed for the claim for a company, Cal-Neva Casualty. You need to develop an activity diagram for this scenario. Use MS-Visio to draw your diagram.
Insurance Claim and Reimbursement System
Cal-Neva Casualty is an auto insurance company serving car owners in California and Nevada. When one of Cal-Nevas policy holders is involved in an accident, the policy holder takes his or her car to Cal-Neva approved body shop, fills out a claims form, and obtains an estimate of the cost to repair the car. Then the policyholder submits the estimate and the claims form to Cal-Nevas claims processing department. There a claims adjuster requests verification of coverage from a clerk in the records department and reviews the claim. If the claims adjuster approves the claim, he or she marks the claims form approved, send the yellow copy to the policy holder and the white and green copies to the body shop, and retains the pink copy for company records. After repairing the car, the body shop has the policyholder sign its copies of the claims form, indicating that the car has been repaired to the policyholders satisfaction. The body shop returns the signed form to the claims adjuster, who submits it to the Cal-Nevas accountant. The accountant issues the body shop a check for the claim amount.
Q2. Based on the narrative provided below, draw an entity relationship diagram (conceptual as well as logical). Map the binary many to many relationships between two entities by creating two relationships of one to many type. Use Visio to draw the diagram.
Description of a System for a Vehicle Repair Shop
Consider the following scenario.
A vehicle repair shop (Grease and Oil) wishes to create a database for its car repair and maintenance service. During the system analysis phase, the following facts emerge.
· Each car belongs to a single customer.
· A customer may own more than one car.
· A customer may bring in a car for service and/ or repairs many times.
· Each time a car comes in for repair or a service, a log sheet is kept of all parts used and labor undertaken. This log is used to create the customer invoice, and a copy of the log is given to the customer along with the invoice.
· There are different types of people involved in car service. These include Grease and Oil employee mechanics, auto electricians and car details/polishers. There is a different hourly labor rate for each of these three categories of work.
· No inventory records are maintained. Common parts like nuts and bolts are drawn from stock, but all other parts are bought in from suppliers only as required.
· Customers are expected to settle their accounts monthly by check or on presentation of their credit card.
· Grease and Oil like to send out reminders to customers when their cars are overdue for a service Reminder: Your diagrams should provide complete cardinality labels that describe both the minimum and maximum cardinality ofeach relationship. For each entity must indicate the identifier (primary key) or a partial identifier and other attributes. You should identify at least 4 non key attributes.
