Question
The Trojan War
Original Post:
We are going to encounter many myths in this course from different time periods and different cultures. We will need a way to classify these myths in order to learn what the myths tell us about each culture and also about humanity in general.
Following the example chart on page 14 in the text, discuss one insight you gathered from your readings about the Trojan War. It must be your original insight, and not one listed in the example chart. Classify the insight as historical, anthropological, metaphysical, etc.
Use either APA or MLA style for citation of sources and post your initial response no later than Thursday at midnight. Reply to at least two of your peers initial posts. When you respond to anothers post, if you agree, be sure to contribute further substance to the discussion by providing additional support for the point of view you share. If you disagree with someones view, identify clearly where you think the post is unconvincing and support your opposing view with a clear argument. Continue the discussion until the end of the module.
Evaluation Criteria
Your initial post should be at least 250 words and must substantively integrate the assigned readings from the module with proper APA style formatting.
For assistance with APA style formatting, visit the Library or the Excelsior OWL.
Your initial post is due by Thursday at 11:59 PM EST. Your responses are due by Sunday at 11:59 PM EST.
After you have posted, read through the postings of your peers. Choose (at least) two of your peers posts to respond to. The posts you choose to respond to do not necessarily have to be classmates initial posts.
Each response to a peer should be (at least) approximately 100 words in length and should contribute to the discussion in progress. All responses to classmates should be substantive. That is, they should go beyond simple agreement or disagreement with classmates posts. Also, be sure that your responses are respectful, substantive, and consistent with the expectations for discussion, as stated by the prompt. Be sure to monitor and respond to feedback to your major thread post throughout the module. Be sure also to reply to your classmates postings and that your responses are within the designated due dates for this discussion activity. Please direct any questions you may have to your instructor.
See the Course Calendar for due dates for posts and responses.
Consult the Discussion Posting Guide for information about writing your discussion posts. Be sure to check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors before you post it. When you are ready to post, click on the Create Thread button for a new thread or Reply to respond to a previous post. Then, copy/paste the text from your document into the message field, and click Submit.
Discussions are worth 25% of your final grade and are assessed using the SLA Discussion Rubric. Review the rubric carefully so you understand how you will be graded. Rubrics can be found within the Start Here Course Information area.

M1D1 Trojan War
COLLAPSE
Reading our text was a refresher for me about the Trojan War. I found these explanations to be much better and more detailed than what I remember from high school.
Gathering insight, what struck me as interesting is the fact that Paris chose a woman over political power over Europa and Asia and being the bravest and mightiest warrior in the world. The psychology behind this is very intriguing. The concepts weve typically learned about this era in history (whether fact or myth) regarding the male psychology is that they are warriors, train to be the strongest, and focus on physical attributes to validate their masculinity. This masculinity defines their ability to achieve power, thus, propelling their status within society. Why did Paris choose a woman (not necessarily love) over a guaranteed spot in a highly appointed power position?

Trojan War Insights
COLLAPSE
The insight I gathered from the myth of the Trojan War was the anthropological insight of the Greeks and Trojans deep belief in their gods. They believed that their fates and actions were guided by the gods. Men felt obligated to leave their families and participate in the war, not only for sense of duty to their leaders but also because it was the will of the gods. Helen was awarded to Paris as a reward from a god after all. This being said, they did not blame the gods as an excuse for their decisions, nor did they feel like they did not have a choice (Thury & Devinney, 2017). They just felt overwhelming belief in courses of action as the will of the gods; the gods represent[ed] higher forces in the universe that determine the fate of humans (Thury & Devinney, 2017, p. 13).
