Principles of EM: Project Part Two Description
The syllabus describes part 2 of your project as Part 2 will be applying the four phases of emergency management to what you found in part 1. This research paper should address what the school/ community has in place for proper mitigation, Preparedness/ Response, and Recovery and educated and researched recommendations for each one of these phases.) The report will be typed and APA formatted as a professional document.
Therefore you are doing an application paper of the 4 phases of EM to your hazard assessment findings. An outline would look like this:
Introduction and definition of the four phases of EM (overview):
You should introduce the topic and what the paper will cover. Include why this is important or what is the point of the paper. This is an introduction paragraph. You can address the background of the area here as well.
Next, define and explain the four phases of emergency management. You MUST define these properly according to the TEXTBOOK, and cite APA style for these definitions.It should be explained that you are going to apply them to what you assessed and provide recommendations for improvement at all phases.
Phase 1: Mitigation
Discuss what has been done or is being done to mitigate certain hazards you found
Discuss your own educated recommendations for improvement on mitigation. (i.e. maybe they dont have security systems and you think they should
)
Phase 2 & 3: Preparedness/ Response (you can tie these two together if youd like)
What do they have in place to prepare?For example, Are they training? Have plans in place? How would they do with a major incident?
Discuss things they SHOULD be doing to better prepare. Where are they weak in these areas? What would you suggest they do?
Phase 4: Recovery
Many areas dont have recovery plans- I GET THAT. If they do, explain what they have in place to get things back to normal ASAP. No matter, you still have to think.
What would you suggest they do to increase their return time? For example, all of their data should be backed up to an off site facility- why?
