Interdiction
its hard to image anything beaning more important in sports than motivation. Self confidence. Motivation and self-confidence are not synonymous concepts, but they are very closely related. Athletes who are highly motivated tent to be very self confidence in their abilitys (R.C 2002)
Motivation is an aspect of performance thats driven by a strong inner forces that activates us to a seiten behaver (k,c.i. & T 2011) intrinsic and extrinsic are two different types of motivation. Extrinsic motivation refers to behaviour that is driven by external rewards a person driven to win for the cash, medals and to attract attention from the media is extrinsic motivation. however intrinsic motivation refers to behaviour that is driven by internal rewards. Its all about the enjoying the activity without thinking about the external reward ( K,c.i.& T 2011)
Self-confidence is a belief that you can successfully preform a desired behaviour. Confidence might be something you feel today and therefore it might be unstable state of self-confidence. Or it might be part of your personality and thus be very stable trail self-confidence. There different types of confidence. Lack of confidence is when you have the physical skills to be sussefull but lack the confidence in the ability to perform under pressure also negative feedback lower our confidence however positive feedback may boot our confidence. Over confidence is when our confidences are greater than our ability (the foundation of sport and exercise psychology). development of perceived self-confidence is closely associated with the level off success experienced by the athlete ( R.C 2002).
the discussion is based on my findings main themes which are self-confidence and motivation. 500 words I need to add more to my discussion add 3 book ref to the discussion. On motivation and self confedence.
My discussion
The two main themes gathered from the interview with with cross fit instructor are motivation and conference.
Based on my findings in the first three paragraphs from the interview with the cross fit instructor I realized the instructor has been practicing cross fit for 8 years and used words like love, challenging rewarding. He also explained the benefits of cross fit such as physical and psychological health improvements which also link to motivation. An example is when athletes enjoy particular sports activities and participate in them without external rewards; internal rewards such as enjoyment and love are their drive or intrinsic motivation as discussed in the interdiction of the essay. (Terry,2011)
Later in the interview the cross fit instructor started expressing how the workout can be a confidence boost for some, and how some people respond to partner work. For some, these motivate people to try hard and therefore raise their confidence. It can however lead people to develop over confidence. That is their confidence is greater than their ability. They observe others and then compete to be better than others. This leads to a lack of concentration in cross fit. As it is a high intensity workout lack of focus can potentially innjure someone. Injuries may require those injured to stop or rest for a while. As a result, there may be a drop in our confidence. The particular skill to do something but lack of confidence to perform for any particular reason is defined by low confidence. Self-confidence and motivation are not synonymous concepts, but they are very closely related. (sport psychology concepts and applications). When we enjoy playing a particular activity and do well, that boosts our confidence and we start to feel proud of our achievements and feel good. might be something you feel today and therefore it might be unstable state of self-confidence. Or it might be part of your personality and thus be very stable trail self-confidence.

1 Interview with a CrossFit trainer How is CrossFit good for you? 2 3 R1: Hi XXXX thanks for taking the time to talk to me today, I really appreciate it. 4 P1: No worries, happy to help out. 5 R1: Are you happy just to dive straight in to a few questions? 6 P1: Sure. 7 R1: Ok, so how long have you been involved in CrossFit? 8 P1: Do you mean participating or as a trainer? 9 R1: Both 10 P1: Well, I got involved about 8 years ago and have been to two CrossFit games competition and just 11 loved it
and I guess thats what got me into wanting to train others. So I became a 12 trainer
er
..about 3 years ago now. Having said that, Ive been involved in teaching fitness for 13 years. 14 R1: Ok, so it was your own participation in CrossFit that got you into becoming a trainer, can you 15 tell me a bit more about that? 16 P1: Yeah, I guess it was just a bit of a new lease of life for me. Id done other stuff before but not 17 with the same level of challenge and intensity. Id always enjoyed fitness training but never really 18 pushed myself. I think with CrossFit, the step up in intensity and challenge gave me more reward. 19 Like
the harder it became, the more I got from it. 20 R1: Ok, so what do you mean when you say reward? 21 P1: Well, I guess its the range and intensity of the different exercises
and I just felt stronger
both 22 physical and psychologically. I suppose that I felt that the development of my physical fitness really 23 made me feel better about myself; and made we want to try new things. 24 R1: Thats interesting and do think that the people that you train experience the same benefits as 25 you did? 26 P1: Oh, for sure. I mean CrossFit made me the person I am and Im really keen to help other people 27 experience that because it changes your life. I mean I get guys and girls walking through the door for 28 their first session and theyre like I dont know if this is for me then after a few sessions theyre just 29 totally different people. So much more belief in themselves, they walk taller and just kinda
. believe 30 in themselves more. Its a total confidence boost. 31 R1: Thats interesting
.Can you tell me a bit more about that confidence boost? 32 P1: Yeah I mean
I reckon that the confidence that people gain from taking part in CrossFit
you 33 know
getting fitter, stronger and stuff
transfers into their everyday lives. Its like they become 34 fitness confident and that helps them develop life confidence, it almost becomes part of their 35 personality. People often come to me and say things like since Ive been doing CrossFit, Im more 36 confident in my job, or with other people
you know, and thats just an amazing feeling for me. 37 38 R1: Ok, so how do you think that confidence actually grows, I mean.. what is it that actually 39 happens to people? 40 P1: Well they can do things they couldnt do before
and that new-found belief in their abilities just 41 makes them so much more confident and happy to try things rather than being scared to try stuff. 42 Like some people come and they are scared of trying to lift big weights, or even hang from a bar.. 43 but.. from just trying it
and realising they can do it
they try even harder and get more and more 44 confident
and somehow they are then like this as a person, not just in the class. Its so cool to see.. 45 Its like their confidence grows as they get better and I think because CrossFit is so intense.. like 46 more than other generic circuits classes or whatever.. its like the link between performance 47 accomplishment and self-confidence is so much more obvious. 48 R1: Ok thats interesting, so what youre saying is, the better they get, the more confident they 49 become? 50 P1: Yeah.. But theres other things too, like
because I set up the training so that a lot of the 51 exercises are done in pairs, very often they see their partner completing an exercise that they want 52 to do.. Maybe like a certain type of pull up or something, and because they see their partner do it, 53 its like they realise they can do it too
they kind of feed off each other and gain confidence that 54 way. 55 R1: OK, so you actually engineer the sessions for that reason? 56 P1: Yeah for sure. Seeing other people that you can compare yourself to succeed gives people a 57 really big confidence boost. The other thing that working in pairs in is really good for is that they 58 tend to encourage each other and like
persuade their friends that they can do it. Its like they 59 motivate each other and thats really powerful in terms of building confidence. 60 R1: And does it always work like that? I mean it sounds too good to be true! 61 P1: Haha, no
I mean you have to be careful as sometimes people can influence each other more 62 negatively than positively. One of the problems can be that people tend to compare themselves to 63 others that they really shouldnt do
and then when they cant perform the way that they want to 64 they can become disheartened and lose confidence. Also, people often try to do too much too soon 65 and end up picking up an injury and then theyre like
totally
deflated and their confidence goes 66 down. Ive lost a few from the sessions that way. I guess the other problem here is that people can 67 also become over-confident
even arrogant. Like they start to think theyre a bit.. all that and that 68 can be problematic for them because generally theyre not! And it can also put other people off a bit 69 and that has an effect on the group. So I guess you have to be careful
on the one hand you want to 70 build peoples confidence as its really good for their well-being, and on the other hand you dont 71 want it to inflate out of proportion. 72 R1: Sounds like a real balancing act! I never thought that there is so much psychology involved in 73 CrossFit! Its interesting that you mention well-being. How does CrossFit contribute to peoples 74 well-being? 75 P1: Wow
thats a huge question
.er
I would say that the main thing I notice is just
.. peoples 76 vitality. You know.. People come in to a session after a hard day at work
in the office or whatever 77 and they look knackered and like they cant be bothered. But when they get in to the session they 78 seem to come alive a bit and find that energy. People often talk about feeling invigorated after a 79 session and you can see theyve just got more energy. So I guess thats a big factor in peoples well- 80 being. I think theres a link to happiness in their too. Like by the end of a session people tend to be
